THIS UPCOMING WEEKEND

A – Lows in the 0s and 10s

B – Lows in the 10s and 20s

C – Lows in the 20s and 30s

D – Lows in the 40s

E – Lows 40 or above

The coldest air of the season will be here by Friday for most. By Saturday, much of the East Coast will have felt the sting of the bitter cold air for this time of season. We will be seeing winter-like temperatures for overnight lows in places, some into the single digits. The cold will first occupy locations farther north, such as upstate New York and New England. Lows there will be the coldest. Second, the cold will move into and make it’s presence felt in Pennsylvania. All the way into the Deep South will be feeling the effects of this cold shot.

Here are ballpark low temperatures for Saturday morning:

I have created a general trend map through the weekend for how cold it will get:

A – Lows in the 0s and 10s

B – Lows in the 10s and 20s

C – Lows in the 20s and 30s

D – Lows in the 40s

E – Lows 40 or above

We can expect the cold trend to continue throughout the weekend. Only on Monday will there be a slight temperature rebound. Then, around the 14th we are expecting yet another reinforcing cold shot behind this one. We are currently in an active pattern! And yes, it appears conditions are favorable for a trough in the East for later this month! If we examine the GEFS ensembles, there is a pronounced trough of cold air over the East into the week of Thanksgiving. It is far too early to tell who will get snow, but someone may as these are signatures of a coastal low developing. Other than mountain snows, I’m not seeing much else as far as snow.
