More Historic Rain on the Way

Florence has wreaked havoc along the Carolinas coastline over the past few days, inundating many places along the coast. Storm surge, hurricane force winds, and heavy rain have made many locations along the coast look like ghost towns, and we are not done yet. Florence has weakened tremendously, but the continued onslaught of tropical moisture feeding into the Carolinas will continue for several more days.

Many places have already seen way over 2 feet of rain from Florence.

With Swansboro, NC recording over 30 inches from Florence this makes it the highest recorded rainfall total for North Carolina from a tropical cyclone. That number is only going to grow from here.

The 12z HRRR shows training bands right over Wilmington, NC which has the potential to dump 3 more feet of rain through this weekend.

The totals that will come out of this storm will be compared to what we saw with Harvey last year, meaning that some places could see 50″-60″ of rain. Dangerous flooding will continue throughout the Carolina’s for not only days, but places could be underwater for weeks.
