The SPC has upgraded the outlook from a marginal risk to a slight risk. Anyone who lives in the yellow COULD see a severe storm tomorrow, however this event is NOT expected to be widespread. There may be a tornado that touches down somewhere, or maybe two. We are not confident that will happen. It will be a mainly rainy day with some gusty showers and spotty heavy downpours.
A line of potentially severe storms moves through eastern NC and eastern VA right around 5 pm rush hour. This line will be the one that could contain damaging winds and hail, and PERHAPS a tornado or two. Otherwise this line will just be showers and gusty thunderstorms. 5 pm NAM future radar is shown below:
Below is the SPC severe risk outlook for Friday. Anyone in the yellow and dark green should be aware of the weather Friday for both NC and VA. Raleigh and Richmond are both included in the yellow.
Have a source for NWS watches and warnings especially in the yellow. This is just to be safe and is not a cause for alarm.
