Severe Weather Expected Friday, Including Tornadoes

2-22-2017

Severe weather is expected to occur across much of the East on Friday. Places affected will be all the way from the Ohio River Valley into the Deep South. We can expect to see the leftovers from the severe weather here in the East, but most of the activity should die off when the severe weather hits the mountains.

Nonetheless, Friday and Friday night will be a severe weather day across much of the East Coast. This will be due to a strong cold front pushing east. Cooler conditions will prevail behind the front, but not before paying the price with severe weather first.

Friday’s severe outlook from NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center will be focusing on the Upper Ohio River Valley, with emphasis on Indiana. However, as these storms push east, so will the threat for severe weather.

The next image displays the amount of shear in the atmosphere, needed for severe thunderstorms, by Saturday early AM. Severe weather could continue into Friday night and into early AM Saturday.
