Latest Arctic Oscillation Index looks like it will plunge into the negatives heading into December. This would allow for a big trough over the East Coast, which in turn would mean much below normal temperatures (cold) and the potential for snow and east coast storms. This is generally what a negative AO means. The more negative the AO, the greater the cold will be.

Another index to watch out for when dealing with east coast snow is the PNA. The more positive the PNA, the greater chances are for snow and cold in the East. The latest PNA forecast looks like it is in fact trending slightly positive into December.
