TYPICAL JUNE TROPICAL TRACKS

A little bit of weather education….typical June tracks for tropical cyclones. We can use these as analogs to help us determine where the most likely path for any tropical cyclone that develops in June. While this is not perfect, it can give us an idea. And any new tropical cyclone that develops may not follow the typical path for June. This is because of the positions of the pressure patterns over the Atlantic and the strength and direction of the trade winds. The result is tropical cyclone tracks similar to this image Courtesy of NOAA:

The NHC has come up with a tropical cyclone climatology, or frequency, for the month of June from 1851-2015. Many of the origins where the disturbances became named storms where either in the Gulf, near the Gulf, or close to the United States. We can kind of look at the general direction of these tracks and use these as likely paths for the current tropical systems.
