Either a Big Storm, or Nothing at all Next Thursday

Mike Griffith, Meteorologist

The talk of the town has been a major East Coast snowstorm around the 16th, Thursday next week. There has been a battle between major global models.

As of now, the GEFS ensembles show that it is not likely for the two pieces of energy, one in the southern jet stream, and one in the northern jet stream, to phase or “come together.” This would have to happen in order to have our big storm next Thursday.

This is what could go wrong, as both pieces of energy fail to merge, and we can kiss the big snow goodbye. However, what could go “right” and cause a major snowstorm across the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast next week. The Euro.

The Euro solution is actually combining the two pieces of energy and actually has the storm. This would be big snow for northern VA, DC, Philly, NYC to Boston. New England could experience blizzard conditions if this storm comes together.
